Catpics is moving to SQL!
Because I am not happy with the quality that Cat Pictures is currently providing, I am moving it to a more stable platform.
(not happy with the quality as in it's hella buggy)
What is SQL?
SQL is a database software that many enterprise websites use to manage users, posts, comments, and pretty much everything a server needs to store.
Previously, Cat Pictures used its own proprietary software to handle likes, comments, browsing and sorting, however this is changing.
What this means for you:
- Sorting will be unavailable until I figure this out.
Comments and likes will reset, but will still be available on a dedicated archive.
I've changed my mind. I am hoping to move all comments and likes from the catpics database to the SQL database. This won't be easy, so it is not my highest priority for this project (to be fair, the archive would probably be harder).- Most, but not all, api's will be moving to v2. Check the docs (when I make them).
What this means in the future:
- Expect faster loading times for comments, pictures and sorting.
- Expect more updates for catpics. I'm so glad I don't have to use the old database, so I'm hoping this'll motivate me to update catpics more often.
Considering the fact no one uses Cat Pictures, this should not be that big of a deal.
